2013 NHL Draft Rankings – Seth Jones Stands Tall in March Rankings

At the top of The Hockey Guys’ 2013 NHL Draft March Rankings stands 6-foot-4-inch defenseman Seth Jones at number one for the second consecutive month.  After careful collaboration between our three contributors, the Portland Winterhawks’ defenseman beat out both Halifax Mooseheads’ star forwards Jonathan Drouin and Nathan MacKinnon. Jones’ rare package of size, mobility, poise and skill was too much to ignore. With that said, MacKinnon did receive a vote as the top player available and while his teammate Jonathan Drouin was ranked 2nd in each list. These players will continue to battle their North American counterpart for the next few months until the 2013 NHL Entry Draft gets underway in late June.

Finnish forward Aleksander Barkov remains positioned 4th in the rankings while Russian forward Valeri Nichuskin has risen up the charts and found a home in the number five slot. Canadian forward Sean Monahan remains in the six-hole while Greyhounds’ defenseman Darnell Nurse, who moved up three slots in Februrary, rose up another two slots and now sits comfortably in the top-10 at number seven.

The fallers in the top-10 this month are Swedish centerman Elias Lindholm, Canadian winger Hunter Shinkaruk and Canadian defenseman Ryan Pulock. Lindholm slid from 5th to 8th and Shinkaruk fell from 8th to 9th while Pulock has dropped out of the top-10.

The only new face in the top-10 is smooth skating Finnish defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen who replaces Ryan Pulock as the 10th ranked player.

Two new faces cracked the Top-30 in March as Kelowna Rockets defenseman Madison Bowey comes in as the 27th ranked player while Baie-Comeau Drakkar forward Valentin Zykov flew up the charts and now sits as the 23rd ranked player.
