Grew up in London, Ontario and was always a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Darryl Sittler was my idol growing up (man did I cry when he and the Leafs parted ways). I am a freelance sports reporter. I do plenty of assignments for Rogers Sportsnet. I have been a reporter for more than 20 years, having also worked at The Score Television Network and for a number of years in radio for Bayshore Broadcasting based out of Owen Sound, Ontario. I have been fortunate enough to cover the NHL playoffs, MLB playoffs and World Series, NBA playoffs, Grey Cups, Canadian Open Tennis and Golf tournaments and the Olympics. I am proud to be involved in a charity golf event every year in which we raise money for Child-can, a London, Ontario based group that helps families dealing with childhood cancer. Child-can offers families financial and emotional support. I am a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, enjoy spending time playing games with my 8 year old nephew and you can always find me at a junior hockey rink somewhere watching an Ontario Hockey League game.

Maple Leafs: Carlyle Reflects on Bruins Rivalry in Advance of Playoffs

By Tony Ambrogio (@SNTonyAmbrogio) March 19, 2012 is a day that Randy Carlyle won’t forget. “Terrible,” said the Maple Leafs coach describing how he felt following an 8-0 loss in Boston to the Bruins that night. “It was not a good feeling back there.” That night, the Bruins finished up going 6-0 against the Leafs [...]

Jake Gardiner Free’d; Will Play Tonight for the Toronto Maple Leafs

By Tony Ambrogio (@SNTonyAmbrogio) As Mike Komisarek walked into the room, he saw the large media scrum surrounding defenseman Jake Gardiner and said, “Jake Gardiner is free!” A week after his agent sent out a #FreeJakeGardiner tweet, the Toronto Maple Leafs called up the defenseman who will play tonight against Tampa Bay. “He did an [...]

Leafs’ Nazem Kadri Flourishing in New Role

By Tony Ambrogio (@SNTonyAmbrogio) One thing Naz has to improve is his eating habits. His body fat today is probably in the bottom 3 to 5 guys in our whole camp and that’s unacceptable. -Dallas Eakins, September 28, 2012 It wasn’t long ago that Nazem Kadri was hearing criticism from the Toronto Marlies head coach. [...]

He sent Jake Gardiner to the American Hockey League. He’s been playing rookie defencemen Mike Kostka and Mark Fraser big minutes. He’s returned Nazem Kadri to centre, who has excelled [...]

Maple Leafs Showing New Toughness Under Carlyle

By Tony Ambrogio (@SNTonyAmbrogio) Brian Burke must be wondering where was all this toughness when he was GM. “We require, as a team, proper levels of pugnacity, testosterone and belligerence.” Brian Burke, November 2008 That was Burke’s famous quote when he took over the Leafs more than four years ago but it has been for [...]

Toronto Maple Leafs Ready To Open 2013 Season

By Tony Ambrogio (@SNTonyAmbrogio) Somewhere Brian Burke must be pleased. The Toronto Maple Leafs will start the year with more grit and sandpaper than it had at any point last year. Matthew Lombardi has been traded and Tim Connolly will start the year with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. The Leafs will [...]

After Being Fired As Maple Leafs General Manager, Brian Burke Speaks

By Tony Ambrogio (@SNTonyAmbrogio) There are a few things that you can always count on: death, taxes and memorable Brian Burke news conferences. Mats Sundin Inducted into Hockey Hall of Fame

By Tony Ambrogio (@SNTonyAmbrogio) As Mats Sundin wrapped up his Hall of Fame induction speech, he looked up into the crowd and said to Maple Leafs fans everywhere, “I will never forget what you have given me.” It was typical Sundin. In his first year of eligibility, Mats Sundin joined Pavel Bure, Adam Oates and [...]

By Tony Ambrogio (@SNTonyAmbrogio) “His body fat today is probably in the bottom three to five guys in our whole camp. That’s unacceptable.” -Toronto Marlies coach, Dallas Eakins. First it was his attitude. Then his poor play away from the puck. Now it is his diet. Nazem Kadri continues to frustrate Toronto Maple Leafs management. [...]
