Just one day after the team’s biggest win of the season – a 6-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks – the Columbus Blue Jackets have announced the firing of general manager Scott Howson.
Howson took over Columbus GM duties on June 15, 2007, replacing Doug MacLean. Despite some aggressive moves to better the franchise, Columbus has suffered three straight seasons with a losing record. Before yesterday’s win, Columbus stood 15th overall in the Western Conference, and although there have been some very bright spots at times this season, the organization felt it was time for a change.
“Scott Howson is a caring man who gave everything he had to the Columbus Blue Jackets over the past six years,” said President of Hockey Operations John Davidson in a statement released by the Blue Jackets official website. “This was a difficult decision but one that I thought was in the best interest of moving our hockey club forward. I have enjoyed working with Scott and want to thank him for his service.”
Below is a recap of some of the moves Howson made in his tenure in Columbus.
