Flyers’ Nick Cousins Guest Blog: Day Four
Nick Cousins is a prospect in the Philadelphia Flyers system. After tearing it up with the Soo Greyhounds in the OHL, Cousins joined the Adirondack Phantoms this past year. Nick is partaking in the Flyers Developmental Camp this week, and has been kind enough to join us as a guest blogger to describe what it is like.
You can read Nick’s day three blog here.
Day 4- July 10 2013
Wake up call came real early this morning! The guys were up a little bit before 6:00 A.M, and we all had breakfast here, at the hotel. We headed over to the rink for 7:00 A.M. to depart for Stone Harbor for the annual Trial on the Isle.
After a little bit of sleep on the bus, we all arrived, and got a team picture in font of the Fire Station in Stone Harbor. We were then divided into teams of four. My team was Cal Heeter, Scott Laughton, David Drake and I. We warmed up and stretched on the beach.
We went for a 1 mile run together and met Jim McCrossin down the beach to give us the instructions for the day. We then had two people blindfolded and two with ear plugs in, and had to carry a 5 meter rope down along the beach with challenges along the way every 100 yards. Our team had a very strong effort, and we actually finished first. I was the one stuck with the blindfold.
After that, we headed over to the Stone Harbor Yacht Club and we had another race but this time it was in the water. We remained in our teams of four, this time it was kayaking, swimming, paddle board and swimming again. I swam, and our team finished second place. It came right down to the final stretch.
Lunch was up next. They provided us with a great lunch of pasta and salad. We then had some free time to walk around downtown, me and some of the guys decided to go mini putting to kill some time. We then met at the local elementary school to sign some autographs for the fans that came out and supported us. It was a great turnout and I enjoy doing that kind of stuff. The fans are what make it fun for us to be able to do this kind of stuff.
After that, it was time for the first annual beach volleyball tournament. Our team actually ended up going 9-1 in the tournament and made the finals. We lost in the finals, but it was a fun afternoon and great weather.
Dinner was up next. We went back to the Yacht Club and had another awesome BBQ.
I am now heading back home now to Voorhees. Last day of camp tomorrow!
