MMDM: From Social Media to Live Events
First Ever Twitter Driven Charity Movement “MMDM” Unites for Meetup
CHICAGO, IL- September 30, 2010- Sports Agent Scott Norton, creator of “Make My Day Mondays” takes online charity effort offline for an evening of 50% off select food and beverage at Chicago hotspot Rockit Bar & Grill to thank existing members of the cause as well as to educate and raise awareness to the community.
Norton Sports Management will partner with StateStSports for their first “meetup” on October 11, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will kickoff as an introduction of “Make My Day Mondays” and its key players. Everyone is welcome to join the event whether involved in social media/twitter or not. Participants will have the opportunity to give suggestions and assist in conceptualizing effective measures of raising responsiveness to the cause.
Donations will be accepted with proceeds for this event going directly to Bruce Crane, the executive director of StreetWise, who will be in attendance. StreetWise is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to empower men and women who currently are, or at risk of becoming homeless. StreetWise accomplishes this mission by publishing a weekly magazine which is sold to these men and women (whom we refer to as “vendors”), and they in turn sell it on the street for a profit. The publication is not a handout, but rather an opportunity for these vendors to become financially self-sufficient through gainful employment.
The idea of “Make My Day Mondays” or “MMDM” is every Monday to make an effort to help someone in need. The distinction of “MMDM” is not to focus on a dollar amount or a specific organization, but to behave with a sense of strong morality and support for the community. The heart of the idea is to donate anything to anyone or anyplace that is important to the individual. Whether it’s buying a meal for a homeless person or helping a handicap person with a door, Norton hopes to utilize his athletes as role models to stress the importance of philanthropy and charity. People can follow Scott Norton @Nortonsports and clients like Los Angeles Kings Captain Dustin Brown @dustinbrown23 and St. Louis tough guy Cam Janssen @camjanssen55 demonstrating what “MMDM” is all about.
