The All UFA Team
July 22, 2010 19 CommentsTake a look at the remaining names within the NHLs UFA pool. Many are stand out veterans who have been part of this fine league for quite some time. Some have had 20 or more goal scoring seasons, others with 30. There are two top notch veteran goaltenders and a slew of defensemen that could create a debate surrounding the fact that you could have a playoff cometative club created from the names that remain on the list.
Let’s create a roster of the remaining unrestricted free agents in this years free agent class.
(authors note: 7/24 edit to change up the lines. Attempts were made to simply see what the fans of the NHL would do with the remaining UFAs if they were to create one full NHL roster.)
Up front:
Teemu Selanne – Lee Stemniak – Paul Kariya
Alexander Frolov - Mike Modano – Maxim Afinogenov
Bill Guerin – John Madden – Raffi Torres
Aaron Asham – Glen Metropolit – Eric Belanger
extras: Owen Nolan, Alexei Ponikarovsky
On the blue line:
Willie Mitchell – Kim Johnsson
Brian Pothier – Andy Sutton
Shoane Morrisonn – Marc-Andre Bergeron
Between the pipes:
Marty Turco
Jose Theodore
Of course, you would have to say that each player skates into this upcoming season with a clean bill of health and the chemistry would need to work. There are also some position changes, but regardless there is still plenty of potential in a roster such as the one listed above.
Look at the names and on black and white that you have created a very competitive roster.
Let us hear your thoughts on the structured roster. Have some fun playing armchair GM with the remaining UFA players.

Um…that team sucks…
lol i doubt that team could compete for the playoffs with lee stemniak as the #1 center.. still better then the leafs tho lol
thats a valid point.
i was just attempting to throw the names involved in the UFA market into the structure here.
it’s still a very interesting team, like i stated, if health and true value of each player was there.

FWIW – even the NHL.com writers feel the same way.
Wtf Bergeron at 3. line??? This sucks..
too old and slow
ok, so frolov is a line higher than selanne even though selanne scored 27 goals and 48 pts in only 54 games, while frolov scored 19 goals and 51 pts….. in 81 games. seems to me like selanne is better, no? and apparently whoever made this team thinks asham is better than a consistent 20 goal scorer like ponikarovsky. haha ok
hey all. thanks for reading and commenting. understand, we were simply attempting to have a bit of fun. a way to play armchair GM and create your own team based off the remaining players in the UFA pool. would have loved to hear what some of you could come up with. post away if you can, create a team/line-up simply out of what is remaining.
Why Teemu and Paul is not the same line??? I would think they would have the same kind of chemistry when they played together in Anaheim?
These are my lines:
F:
Selänne-Modano-Kariya
Frolov-Satan-Afinogenov
Guerin-Stempniak-Asham
Fedotenko-Morrison-Ponikarovsky
D:
Mitchell-Bergeron
Ward-Johnsson
Mottau-Sutton
G:
Emery
Turco
now those are some good looking lines!
wouldn’t change uttek’s lines, they seem the best fantasy ufa lines
How many of these defenceman have the consistant numbers Randy Jones has? He should be a lock in the top 4 on this UFA team! Far more steady than at least 3 of these Dmen!
Uttek’s lines look decent, but I can’t put Modano at 1 line C.
He’s a couple steps too slow these days. Still a great player, but he’s just not fast enough IMO.
I’d take Stemp, or even Morrison over Modano.
I like Uttek’s lines, but i’d swap Ponikarovsky with Asham and Stempniak with Modano…
I believe these lines he made were decent. I would probably put in ponikarovsky for asham though. This team is not so bad.
mike stay with stars please !!!!!!!!!
how did ponikarovsky not crack your line-up lol ?
From the looks of it, the only people with previous line chemistry together are Teemu Selanne and Paul Kariya. I think.
Guerin and Modano had great chemistry at Dallas….. both a bit on the slow side now though.
