If there was any doubt as to where goaltender Cam Hackett would be playing hockey, he made it quite clear what his intentions were.
There was some speculation that Hackett, 17, was considering playing in the Ontario Hockey League and joining the Owen Sound Attack, who own his OHL rights, but that’s not the case.
Hackett, a 2014 draft eligible, is committed to the Cornell Big Red and fully intends on honoring his commitment and playing there during the 2014-15 season.
Deciding between the OHL or NCAA can be tough for some. That wasn’t the case for Hackett as a university education was too much to pass up.
“Education has always been an important factor in my life,” said Hackett. “Hockey doesn’t last forever and having a great backup plan is a no brainer. An Ivy League degree is priceless.”
Going to a school with a history of producing quality goaltenders only made it easier for Hackett.
“Cornell’s fantastic at developing their players, especially goalies, not just on the ice but off the ice as people as well. It’s a huge part of the coaches philosophy.”
Hackett will play with the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL this season.
