The Halifax Metro Centre will play host to 40 of the Canadian Hockey League’s top prospects for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft on January 16, 2013 in the 2013 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game. While the National Hockey League and associated members attempt to resolve the ongoing CBA issues in hopes of saving the 2012-13 NHL Season, the same 30 teams were also responsible for selecting the 40 talented draft eligible players who will compete for either Team Cherry or Team Orr next month in Nova Scotia.

Showcasing their talents in hopes of earning top draft selections will be 14 Ontario Hockey League players, 14 Western Hockey League players and 12 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League players. The host city features three of their own Halifax Mooseheads’ players including The Hockey Guys’ top ranked centerman (Nathan MacKinnon), top ranked winger (Jonathan Drouin) and top ranked goaltender (Zach Fucale). The London Knights, Portland Winterhawks, Quebec Remparts and Rimouski Oceanic also feature a trio of their own players.  Max Domi, Bo Horvat and Nikita Zadorov will skate in the annual showcase game for London while top ranked defenseman Seth Jones, Oliver Bjorkstrand and Nicolas Petan will don the CHL sweaters for the Portland Winterhawks.  In the Quebec league, Adam Erne, Anthony Duclair and Nick Sorensen will represent the Remparts and Samuel Morin, Frédérik Gauthier and Jan Kostalek have the opportunity to impress scouts outside of their Oceanic jerseys.

Captaining the two squads will be consensus top picks, Nathan MacKinnon (Team Cherry) and Seth Jones (Team Orr). Jonathan Drouin and Darnell Nurse will serve as Alternate Captains for Team Cherry and Sean Monahan and Hunter Shinkaruk will wear the “A’s” for Team Orr.  The 18th annual CHL/NHL Top Prospects game offers an opportunity for these players to boost their draft stock in front of the scouting world.  At last year’s event in Kelowna, the game featured 10 players that were selected in the first round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
