Ontario Hockey League Rumors, News and Notes: 12/7/11

I stated in my most recent article here at TheHockeyGuys that I would try and get more pieces up for you all to provide you with better OHL coverage, so that’s what I intend to do. Here’s the latest news pieces, notes and scuttlebutt from around the OHL.
Greg McKegg could be on the move
Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Greg McKegg could be on the move to a contending team sooner than later. The Erie Otters are currently sitting dead last in the OHL with a 3-24-1 record in 28 games. They’re dead last in the OHL in goals for, and dead last in goals against. They’re also 11 points behind the Kingston Frontenacs, who are second last in the OHL, and 23 points out of the 8th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
There’s no doubt they’re a rebuilding team, so the talk is they will move their best player in McKegg for a ‘future orientated package’.
Petes not looking for help on D
Recently Peterborough Petes defenseman Slater Koekkoek, who is projected to go top 15 in the upcoming draft, suffered a shoulder injury that will keep him out a while. Petes General Manager, and former NHLer, Dave Reid told me that Koekkoek will return a little after Christmas at best. That’s obviously not good news for the Petes who have been struggling to keep the puck out as of late.
I asked Petes GM Dave Reid if he was shopping around the league for help on defense and he told me that is “not looking for any defenseman.” It appears as though the Petes will just battle it out for the time being and hope for a speedy recovery.
Scout compares Reid Boucher to the Phil Kessel of old
I was talking to a scout the other day who watches Reid Boucher and the Sarnia Sting quite frequently, and he told me that Devils prospect Reid Boucher is like the Phil Kessel we have seen in recent years. This scout told me that there isn’t much to Boucher’s defensive game and that he just skates around waiting for the puck to come to him. This scout noted that though there isn’t a lot to his game, he has a deadly shot and he can “play bad and still put up a hat trick because if he gets the puck in the right spot he’s ridiculously tough to stop.”
